2A Baseball: Warriors Bounce Back Against Hawks

LACEY — After being swept by Montesano on Thursday and starting off slow against River Ridge on Friday, Rochester coach Jerry Striegel began to worry.

“They scored 4 runs in the first two innings on no hits,” he said. “Seemed like every time we’d walk a guy they’d score because of errors or an infield out or a passed ball. It was one of those weird things.”

That worry didn’t last long, as the Warriors — who were down 6-0 — exploded for 8 runs in the fourth inning and ended up beating nonleague foe River Ridge 12-7 behind 15 hits.

“The kids kind of got things going again,” Striegel said. “The kids did a good job battling at the plate.”

Wyatt Singer was 2 for 3 for the Warriors, including a 2-run homer in the seventh inning, while starting pitcher Brock Hawes was 2 for 4 with a solo homer in the sixth inning. Brandon Rogers — who came in to relieve Hawes on the mound in the second inning — finished with two hits and 5 RBIs. Curtis Haley had two hits, as well, and 4 RBIs.

“Hitting is such a contagious thing and things just got on a roll,” Striegel said.

The Warriors (7-5, 4-4 league) will host Aberdeen on Tuesday.
