ROCHESTER — The Warriors were able to hold the Tigers at bay for just one inning

Centralia, however, took complete advantage of a fatigued Rochester pitching staff to take a 19-6 nonleague baseball victory here on Friday.

The Warriors had played a doubleheader the previous afternoon in Hoquiam, and couldn’t quite keep up with a Centralia staff that was coming off a week’s rest.

"It was a boat race," Rochester coach Jerry Striegel said. "Only problem? Our boat sank."

The Warriors sprinkled runs through the first four innings, with Chase McCarthy and Curtis Haley each notching an RBI single. Brock Hawes and Dominic Ware recorded an RBI double apiece, and Wyatt Singer went 2 for 3 from the plate.

Centralia, though, led 6-5 after three innings and exploded for 9 in the top of the seventh to make the final score a bit more lopsided than it may have appeared.

Centralia's Drew Fagerness had a 2-run triple and went 2 for 5 at the dish, and Jacob Monohon knocked in 2 runs, also on a 2 for 5 performance. The Warriors committed five errors on the night, accommodating the particularly damaging seventh inning.

"We swung the bat pretty well for a while today," Striegel said. "It was a tough day today with having two days in a row and our pitching staff wasn't as deep. They are a great hitting team and they exposed us."

The Warriors (2-2 league, 3-3 overall) will host Forks on Thursday for a twinbill. Centralia (2-0 nonleague) will travel to Black Hills on Tuesday.

Grizzlies Sweep Warriors in Homestand

HOQUIAM — The Warriors were able to chain together enough hits to match and, in one instance, outhit the Grizzlies, but were unable to capitalize and finish as Hoquiam defeated Rochester in both games of a twinbill, 4-2 and 5-1, here on Thursday.

Juan Jimenez gave the Warriors an early 2-1 lead, knocking in 2 runs in the second inning on a 2 for 4 performance from the plate. Two errors spelled doom in the bottom of the third, however, allowing the Grizzlies to score 3 and stay ahead for the remainder of Game 1, despite the Warriors matching Hoquiam with seven hits, apiece.

"We had a couple of crucial errors in that third inning after being up," Rochester coach Jerry Striegel said. "We played really well defensively, but we took ourselves out of the game by not being very aggressive at the plate."

Hoquiam ace Kyle Standstipher racked up 13 strikeouts in the first game.

Skyler Jump found much of the same success in the late game, striking out 12 Rochester hopefuls at the plate. The Warriors, however, outhit the Grizzlies 7-5, loading the bases in the second, fifth, and seventh frames without one opportunity being utilized.

"We got enough hits, we just couldn't get a base hit with them loaded," Striegel said. "We just couldn't get that clutch hit."

Wyatt Singer went 3 for 4 and Josh Larson connected on 2 of his 3 attempts at the plate. Striegel also credited the efforts of pitchers Dylan Urvina and Brandon Rogers. The lack of aggression continued, according to Strigel, with the Warriors striking out looking on a combined 12 separate occasions in both games.

"Those two guys played well enough to win a ballgame," Striegel said of his pitching staff. "But we couldn't convert."
