SEATTLE — W.F. West’s Daniel Blomdahl capped off his senior year with an eighth-place finish at the State 2A Boys Tennis Tournament here at the Nordstrom Tennis Center over the weekend.

Blomdahl won his first match on Saturday, downing East Valley’s Michael Manion from East Valley (Yakima) 6-4, 6-4 to move into the fifth/eighth place match against Sehome’s Brady Anderson. Anderson would win 6-1, 6-1.

“Daniel did a really nice job and I was pleased with his performance,” W.F. West’s Jack State said. “He’s been to state two times and placed in both trips.”

Blomdahl made it as a member of a doubles team with Kenny Saari in 2013 and placed sixth in the state.

On the girls side, W.F. West’s Kyla Richards and Isabel Vander Stoep took fifth in the State 2A Girls Tennis Tournament’s doubles bracket. Richards and Vander Stoep took out North Kitsap’s Sarah Holt and Megan Cragg, 6-1, 6-2, to reach the fifth-eighth place game. They were able to battle Sequim’s Cheyenne Sokkappa and Karen Chan and pull out a 3-6, 7-6 (6-2), 6-2 outcome.

The only loss that Vander Stoep and Richards suffered was a 7-6 (6-3), 0-6, 6-2 decision to eventual state champion Kim Dorr and Rachel Dorr, from Squalicum, in the first round.

“They only got together about a month ago,” State said. “When they played relaxed tennis in tight situations they played very well.”

Centralia’s Jaycee Foster and Hayden Blaser took seventh at the state tournament to further post a strong showing for the Evergreen 2A Conference. The two started off the day disposing of Kingston’s Sarah Hamel and Chelsea Rosebrook 7-6, 6-0 to advance to the fourth/seventh place match.

“Our girls got off to a slow and tentative start but ended the match playing aggressive tennis,” Centralia coach Deb Keahey said.

Meeting them in the matchup was North Kitsap’s Anelli Seaburg and Eri Maejima, and the duo would have the Tigers’ doubles squad a 6-2, 6-0 defeat.

“The girls had moments of brilliance, but had challenges consistently playing at their usual high level,” Keahey said. “We are so proud of Jaycee and Hayden for the entire season and for bringing home a seventh place medallion. They had a great run this year and we’ve all had wonderful memories.”
