1A Baseball: Beavers Take Cruisers in Five

Posted

EATONVILLE — The Beaver defense was able to support pitcher Calvin Guzman and the offense was up to the task in a five-inning, 11-1 Evergreen 2A/1A League baseball win here Friday.

Guzman allowed just two hits and coaxed the Cruisers into a plethora of ground-outs, with solid defense from his surrounding teammates.

"The defense had Calvin's back today," Tenino coach Conner Hogue said. "He located his pitches well and made them put the ball in play, and our guys came through."

The middle of the batting order was able to finish well with teammates on base. Dakota Bellrose knocked in 4 runs, with a double in a 2 for 4 performance. Zeb Chamberlain drove in 3 runs without the aid of a hit, and Terran Gilbreath went 1 for 2 at the plate with 2 RBIs.

"It was cool to see the middle of our lineup knocking them in with guys on base," Hogue said. "I keep asking them to play at a high intensity and they keep improving on that. It's just nice to see them coming out to play every game."

Tenino (3-0 league, 3-1 overall) will host Aberdeen on Tuesday.
