ABERDEEN — The Bobcats made a few key plays and then made those plays hold up in a 2-0 Evergreen 2A/1A League boys soccer win over Rochester here Thursday night.

Aberdeen got on the board early, with a fourth-minute goal from Victor Junco, and wrapped up the scoring 20 minutes later with a goal from Alex Barene.

“After that we just kind of settled down and tried,” Rochester coach Brian Ziese said, adding that his team managed 16 shots on goal and seven corner kicks. “We had some chances, but they just didn’t go for us tonight.”

Freshman Isaac Garcia, first-time defender Julius Sword and sweeper Nick Taylor all played well on the defensive end, Ziese added.

“Those three just did awesome for us and kept us in the game the second half,” he said.

Rochester (6-4, 6-3 league) will host Eatonville on Monday.

“It was a good game, some of our starters didn’t play and our other boys played really well,” W.F. West coach Tino Sanchez said. “It was really exciting to see them play, they worked hard tonight.”

Prairie scored a goal in each half.

Sanchez liked the performances he saw from Drew Mann and Jacob Russell, along with Kynan Goldsby, Govanni Gil-Munoz, Irving Carrasco and Brendon Sanchez. Freshman goalkeeper Daniel Ford also had a good game, he added.
