For the second day in a row, W.F. West’s Kate Balmelli was the match medalist, but her Bearcats fell 64-62 in Evergreen 2A Conference golf action using Stableford scoring at Newaukum Valley Golf Course on Thursday.

Balemlli shot a 49 — six strokes below her average — while scoring 20 Stableford points.

Stableford points are awarded on a per-hole basis, based on a player’s score in relation to par. Balemlli was backed up by Karley Noble’s 17 points while she shot a 52. Robin Fletcher notched a 61 and scored 9 points.

“Kate’s been coming on lately,” W.F. West coach Bruce Thompson said. “She was co-medalist yesterday and now she was the match medalist by three strokes.”

Black Hills was led by Elle Hirotaka’s 18 Stableford points and Sar Sneden’s 13 points. Five of the six Wolf golfers had double-digit points.

“They just kept pounding us with double-digit points and we kind of dropped off with eights and that was the difference,” Thompson said.

Heather Wilson shot a 62 and scored 8 Stableford points and Shasta Lofgren also notched 8 points. Haley Simmons was the No. 7 golfer for W.F. West, scoring 11 points in the JV match.

W.F. West (2-4) plays Centralia at Riverside Golf Course on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
