Prep Boys Soccer: Centralia’s Offense Continues to Roll in 5-3 Win Over United

Goals were aplenty in a spirited friendly between United and the Tigers Wednesday night in the Hub City, but it was Centralia that came away with a 5-3 victory to remain undefeated four games into the season.

“All our goals looked like they were planned goals; people were working together,” Centralia coach Sue Parke said.
Laurence Silva put Centralia on the board quickly, scoring in the second minute on an assist from Mauricio Mosqueda-Zuniga. Mosqueda-Zuniga scored on a goal of his own 11 minutes later thanks to a through ball from Edgar Bravo.
“Laurence is an anchor in the middle for us and Edgar added a lot to us in this game,” Parke said.
After the quick Tiger start, United was able to get some momentum back as Adair Garibay scored on a breakaway goal just before halftime.

“As a team, we started out in the first 15 minutes really good then we kind of flattened out,” Parke said. “In the second half we had moments of really playing well together but it wasn’t consistent.”

Mosqueda-Zuniga scored 14 minutes into the second half on a through ball from Silva, then Binod Sapkota was able to get the goalie to over-commit and chipped the ball in to make it 4-1 in the 57th minute.

“Binod had a lot of energy,” Parke said. “He runs a lot and just makes things happen.”
United wasn’t done, however and in the 62nd minute on a penalty kick, Garibay notched his second goal of the game. The Tigers answered back as Joseph Gonzalez found the back of the net on an assist from Sapkota.
Garibay notched his hat trick in the 67th minute for United, getting the keeper to overcommit and then dribbling around him.

“We actually played, I thought, really well,” United coach Horst Malunat said. “We made some mistakes, and they’re a pretty dangerous team, offensively.”
Parke, who added she like the play of goalie Jesse Vasquez, will take her undefeated team (2-0-2) into Rochester on Friday for another nonleague matchup.
United (2-1-1, 1-0 league) will host W.F. West in Toledo at 7 p.m. tonight, and resume 1A Trico League play on Saturday at La Center.

“Overall, I think we’re improving,” Malunat said. “We played W.F. West last week (to a tie), and we’re playing them tomorrow, and I think we’ll see a little improvement on that result.”
