The Bearcats got strong performances from their freshman and six pins on Thursday to win an Evergreen 2A Conference dual wrestling meet, 51-24, over Aberdeen in Chehalis.

Freshman Cristo Parriot, at 120 pounds, won a tight 5-4 match, while classmate Damian Hernandez got a pin at 106. Daniel Matagi, also a freshman, notched a 5-1 win at 220 against a state-ranked opponent.

“Our freshmen wrestled really well,” Bearcat coach Jamie Rakevich said. “I was real proud of my freshmen stepping up for their first league home dual. It was good to see.”

Caleb Walters got a pin at 132, Zach Evans got one at 138, Darren Gray pinned his opponent at 145, and Bryce Laufenberg won via pin at 152.

“We had a bunch of guys bumped up just to fill the spots, and they wrestled pretty well,” Rakevich said. “Overall, we wrestled pretty tough for the most part.”

Isaac Reavis (195) added a technical fall win, and Evan Moon (160) won by major decision for the Bearcats.

W.F. West (2-0 league) wrestles at a tournament in Kelso on Saturday, and hosts Centralia on Tuesday.
