2A Track & Field: W.F. West Sweeps Team Titles in Tumwater

TUMWATER — W.F. West’s boys and girls each picked up wins in a dual EvCo track meet against Black Hills here on Wednesday.

"I was really proud of our team today,” W.F. West coach Autumn Ledgerwood said. “We had numerous PRs, a competitive attitude, and a focus on continuing to elevate our performances."

The girls won with 109 points, with Tumwater finishing in second place with 89 points.

Emma Moon won the 1600 meters (5:40.67) and Lauren Tornow won the 300 hurdles (58.82) and earned second in the long jump (15 feet, 6 inches) and 100 hurdles (16.60).

Kendra Bottenberg won the javelin (113-06), placed second in the discus (95-03) and took third in the shot put (33-10.50).

“Emma Moon and Kendra Bottenberg consistently step up to provide leadership,” Ledgerwood said. “Emma won the 1600 by over 14 seconds. Kendra won the javelin on her final throw, sweeping the event with teammates Megan Pallas and Taya McCallum.”

Megan Flexhaug won the pole vault (10-00) and Gracie Ericson won the triple jump (30-05) and took silver in the high jump (4-04).

The 4x100 relay team (Jade Ennis-Palmer, Kelly Robertson, Emma Thornburg, Courtney Bennett) won with a time of 52.82 seconds and the 4x400 team won gold (Bennett, Robertson, Thornburg, Tornow) in 4:16.51.

Courtney Bennett finished second in the 200 (28.48) and Kelly Robertson placed second in the 400 (1:04.44). Kyla Johnson took second in the 3200 (16:28.35) and Jade Ennis-Palmer took second in the discus (85-01).



On the boys side, Francisco Lima won the 1600 (4:48.81) and the 3200 (10:44.21).

“Francisco is such a steady presence, always working hard and getting the job done,” Ledgerwood said. “Today was no exception. He ran a very smart 1600 and earned a new PR time."

Colby White won three events, including the high jump (a personal-best 6-04), the long jump (20-09, another personal best) and the triple jump (41-08).

“To set two new personal bests and be a triple-winner today was great for Colby,” Ledgerwood said. “I feel like I talk about him every week because he just keeps raising the bar.”

Lafe Johnson won the pole vault (12-00) and Thomas Koenig earned second (11-06). Troy Yarter placed second in the triple jump (40-00).

Jack Mallonee finished first in the 300 hurdles (42.48), and the 4x400 relay team (Carver Brennan, Dallas Taylor, Jasper Ellingson, Ka’imi Henry) won the event with a time of 3:30.26.

Carver Brennan finished second in the 400 (52.22), just ahead of Ka’imi Henry in third (52.71). Connor Russell took second in the 300 hurdles (43.94) and Zachary Sloan placed second in the shot put (44-08).

W.F. West is back on the track on Friday and Saturday at the Chehalis Activators Classic. Over 30 schools are scheduled to attend, with the action starting at 4 p.m. on Friday and noon on Saturday.
