2A Boys Golf: Dobyns Leads Bearcats Past Mark Morris

Posted

Hayden Dobyns had a solid round and the Bearcats boys picked up a 231-246 nonleague win over Mark Morris Thursday at Newaukum Valley Golf Course.

Dobyns shot a 40 for the second match in a row, just a stroke off his lowest round of the season.

“He’s been working hard to get around the golf course so he’s more consistent, and that’s worked for him,” W.F. West coach Bruce Thompson said. “I just have this feeling that a 39 is not going to be the lowest that he goes.”

Adam Schwarz and Will Alexander both shot a 46 for the Bearcats, with Bryce Dobyns carding a 47.

Austin White led Mark Morris with a 42.

The Bearcats’ JV shot 245 as a team, with five golfers — Trevor Thornburg (44), Michael Anderson (45), Wyatt Magnuson (48), Brady Heinz (54), Cody Deskins (54) — combining to shoot 21 strokes below their average.

W.F. West (5-3, 4-2 league) will play at Tumwater Valley Golf Course against Black Hills on Wednesday to close out the regular season. The Bearcats will return to Tumwater Valley on Thursday, Oct. 15, for the league championship tournament.
