2A Boys Golf: Alexander Places Seventh at State

RICHLAND — W.F. West’s Will Alexander shot an even-par 72 in the second round of the State 2A Boys Golf Tournament to finish in the top 10 here Wednesday at Horn Rapids Golf Course.

Alexander finished in seventh place, after finishing Day 1 in 21st with a first-round 81.

Centralia’s Deter Voetberg shot a second-round 84, putting him in a tie for 20th after beginning the day tied for sixth. Voetberg, a senior, was three strokes off the lead with a 76 on Tuesday, which included a rare hole in one.

W.F. West’s Hayden Dobyns recorded a second-round 89 to finish in 41st place and Rochester’s Brock Hawes was right behind Dobyns in 42nd place, shooting a 95. Dobyns and Hawes had been tied in 37th place after Tuesday’s action, with matching first-round 84s.

Bellingham’s Nick Nolan won the tournament, shooting a second round 2-under par 70 for a two day total of 145. Nolan finished one stroke ahead of Liberty’s Luke Hall, who shot a second round 1-over par 73 for a total of 146, and who led the tournament after Day 1.

Hall’s teammate Chase McIntosh finished in a tie for third, and four Liberty golfers were in the top 30, giving the Issaquah school the team championship with 120.5 points.

2A Girls: Centralia’s Mettler Finishes in Top 20

RICHLAND — Centralia’s Julie Mettler finished in the top 20 with a second-round 83 at the State 2A Girls Golf Tournament here Wednesday at Columbia Point Golf Course.



Mettler improved on her Day 1 score by 13 strokes to finish with a two-day total of 179. W.F. West’s Kate Balmelli was the only other local golfer to qualify for the second round, shooting a 103 to finish in a tie for 43rd.

W.F. West’s Delanie Calkins just missed the Day 1 cut, set at 99, with a 101, and teammate Carly Noble shot a 104 on Tuesday.

East Valley’s Morgan Baum shot a second-round 3-under par 69 to win the tournament with a two day total of 147. Ephrata’s Kenedee Peters finished in second place with a two day total of 148 after shooting a second-round 71.

Baum’s East Valley squad won the team championship with 109 points.

1B/2B Boys: Ilwaco Wins Team Title

SPOKANE — Adna’s Logan Boone missed the cut on the first day of action at Meadowwood Golf Course in Spokane, shooting a 97 in the first round of the State 1B/2B Boys Golf Tournament.

The Day 1 cut was set at 86.

Davenport’s Palmer Guhlke won the tournament with a 147 (74-73), and Ilwaco’s Brock Kukula was second with 151 (73-78). Teammate Zac Tapio finished tied for 15th at 170 (85-85), giving the Fishermen the state championship with 29.5 points — edging Pomeroy (28), which had Devon Caruso and Jacob Tewalt tied for sixth together at 158.
