2A Boys District Basketball: Bearcats One Step Closer to District Title Game

Carter McCoy scored a game-high 21 points and W.F. West routed Washougal 59-48 in the opening round of the 2A Boys District 4 tournament here Saturday.

Tyler Speck added 15, including three 3-pointers, while Cade Haller contributed 13 for the W.F. West (16-5), which won its sixth straight. The second-seeded Bearcats will face five-seed Woodland in the district semifinals on Tuesday at a time and location to be determined.



Woodland was upset winners over the Greater St. Helens League champion and top-seeded Columbia River, 51-48, on Saturday. Woodland beat Ridgefield Tuesday to qualify for the district play-in game, then won that match against Mark Morris Wednesday then bear Aberdeen Thursday.

Against Washougal, the Bearcats trailed by one after the first quarter at 12-13, then outscored the Panthers 14-9 in the second and 19-12 in the third to put the game away.

The Bearcats shot 45 percent from the field on 24 of 53 shooting, compared to Washougal’s 18 of 54 shooting (33 percent).
