1A Baseball: Montesano Pitching Stiffles Beavers

Posted

MONTESANO — Tenino ran into a pair of solid pitchers here Wednesday, falling short 2-0 and 3-2 in a pair of 1A Evergreen League baseball games.

The Beavers managed four hits off of Montesano ace Nate Kloempken in the opener, but couldn’t push a run across. Logan Brewer went 2 for 3 at the plate for Tenino.

“We put the ball in play all over the field, but they just played good defense,” Tenino coach Conner Hogue said. “We had runners on base early that we didn’t take advantage of, but we hit the ball well.”

In the nightcap, though, Montesano’s Evan Bates held the Beavers to just one hit — recorded by Jace Griffis in the seventh inning.

Tenino, though, played error-free ball in Game 2, and Ryan Deoskey worked a complete game on the mound.

“I don’t think the results indicate the victories we had today and how we played. They’re a very complete team, and I was very proud of our ability to compete and battle through adversity,” Hogue said. “We played them tough. I was proud of our effort.”

Tenino (6-4-1, 2-2 league) plays at Hoquiam on Thursday, and hosts Elma on Friday.
