TUMWATER — Isabel Vander Stoep and Emma Lund picked up the only win for W.F. West here Wednesday in a 5-1 Evergreen 2A Conference girls tennis loss to Tumwater.

“I told them, as a team, if you compare how we played the first time we played Tumwater to how we played today, it was a big improvement,” W.F. West coach Jack State said. “Lots of people played a lot better.”

Vander Stoep and Lund, in the No. 1 doubles match, won 1-6, 6-0, 7-5, and trailed 4-3 at one point in the final set.

Megan Wilkes and Mya Davis, at No. 2 doubles, took an undefeated No. 2 Thunderbirds team to a tiebreaker in the second set of a 6-2, 7-6 loss.

“We played a good doubles matchup. The way we moved on the court was good,” State said. “We missed some shots, but that’s more attributable to a lack of experience.”

W.F. West (5-7) plays at Centralia on Friday.

Black Hills Edges Centralia

Centralia won all of three doubles matches, but Black Hills won all three singles matches and edged the Tigers 60-57 in games to earn a 4-3 win in an Evergreen 2A Conference match on Wednesday in Centralia.

No. 1 doubles pair Hayden Blaser and Hannah Jeffries earned a win in straight sets, 6-0, 6-4, as did No. 2 doubles pair Hannah Gundersen and Ellie Corwin also won in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0. No. 3 doubles pair Katie Williams and Megan LeDuc won a tough three-set match, 5-7, 7-5, 6-4.

“Katie (Williams) and Megan (LeDuc) played really smart tennis,” Centralia coach Deb Keahey said. “They make adjustments on the court on their own and it worked today, it was a close game. I was really proud of the whole team.”

It was senior day for the Tigers, as seniors Blaser, Gundersen, Carolyn Harper, Elizabeth Johnson, Robin McGrew, Alex Norris, Jordun Palermo and Williams all graduate in June.

Centralia (7-5, 3-4) hosts W.F. West in the final home match of the season.
