2A/1A Girls: Rochester Shuts Down Tenino

ROCHESTER — The Warriors got their defense humming early and that turned into points in a 58-36 Evergreen 2A/1A League victory over Tenino here on Friday night. Joni Lancaster led the Warriors with 22 points while Madison Justice added 14 points and five rebounds.

“We were able to get out and press and turn our defense into offense early,” Rochester coach A.J. Easley said. “When we subbed in and out we didn’t lose anything defensively. Hunter Hahn and Emily Elkins really kept the intensity up.”

Rochester led 19-7 after one quarter and 31-12 at halftime. Tenino was led by Felicia Gubbe’s 10 points.

“The big thing was keeping on them and not backing off,” Easley said. “Our girls did a good job of keeping the pedal down.”

Easley added he also liked the play of Alexis Seymour and Ariel Saxon. Justice also had a good game inside, he added, with putbacks and midrange jumpers.

Rochester (5-13, 5-7 league) plays at Hoquiam on Tuesday while Tenino (2-14, 2-10 league) hosts Elma.
