HOQUIAM — Rochester fought the Grizzlies to the end but dropped a 41-40 Evergreen 2A/1A League girls hoops contest here on Tuesday.

The Warriors cut a 6-point deficit to just a point in the final minute and was led by Madison Justice’s 15 points and 10 rebounds.

“The kids showed good poise after they got up a little bit in the third quarter,” Rochester coach AJ Easley said.

Alexis Seymour started the fourth quarter off with three steals for the Warriors, who had been down by 4 points.

“Between her and Joni (Lancaster) they had it tied back up in 47 seconds,” Easley said.

Hoquiam led by 6 points with a minute to go but strong play by Justice and Ariel Saxon kept the Warriors in the game.

“We had plenty of opportunities but just couldn’t get the ball to fall,” Easley said. “For them to go on the road and battle a pretty good basketball team is great to see.”

Lancaster finished with 13 points for the Warriors.

Rochester (5-13, 5-7 league) hosts Eatonville for senior night on Friday.
