2A/1A Girls: Beavers Come Up Just Short Against Hoquiam

TENINO — The Beavers were in the thick of things against Hoquiam here Tuesday night, but came up just short in a 43-40 Evergreen 2A/1A League girls basketball loss.

Merissa Richardson knocked down five 3-pointers to score 15 points and lead Tenino.

The Beavers had the ball with 10 seconds left, but Hoquiam managed to force a turnover to seal the win, spoiling Tenino’s comeback from a 9-point deficit.

“They hit a couple buckets at the end with some fouls, and it just slipped out of our hands. But we were right there,” Tenino coach Tano Bailon said. “We see progress every day with them, so we’re on the right path.”

Kaylee Schow added 8 points for Tenino, and Kelci Parker led Hoquiam with 12.

Tenino (1-11, 1-8 league) will play at Eatonville on Friday.
