2A/1A Football: Centralia Earns First Win Over Fort Vancouver

Posted

VANCOUVER — The Trappers could do little to slow Tanner DeMonbrun here Friday, as the Centralia quarterback threw for four touchdowns and ran in another score as the Tigers earned their first win of the season, 48-14, in non-league action.

DeMonbrun ran for 85 yards and was 12 of 19 passing for 291 yards.

Blaine Wass caught three passes for 88 yards and a touchdown, Derek Beairsto added two catches for 65 yards and a score and Benito Valencia caught two passes for 42 yards and a touchdown.

“It’s nice to get a W and build these kids’ confidence,” Centralia coach Jeremy Thibault said. “The second half was a completely different team.”

DeMonbrun threw a 24-yard pass to Tyler Milton for the only score of the first quarter, then tossed two scoring passes in the second quarter to give the Tigers a 21-14 lead at the break.

The Tigers then blanked Fort Vancouver 28-0 in the final two quarters, kicked off by DeMonbrun’s 21-yard touchdown run.

Colbey Sobolesky-Reynolds and Eddie Matias added late rushing touchdowns.

“We kind of tightened up the ship and kids played really hard. The fourth quarter was great,” Thibault said. “We almost went to that moment we’ve been having. They kind of put the brakes on it and ended up playing well at the end.”

Centralia (1-3) hosts Aberdeen on Friday to open Evergreen 2A Conference play.

WASHOUGAL — Washougal threw for 333 yards and outlasted W.F. West 29-14 in a non-league football game here on Friday night.

W.F. West managed 273 yards compared to Washougal’s 484 yards of total offense.

The Bearcats saw two drives stall in the red zone and another end in a fumble near the 5-yard line, W.F. West coach Dan Hill said.

“We were just shooting ourselves in the foot time and time again,” he added.

Gaines opened the scoring with an 11-yard rushing touchdown.

Washougal answered with a 3-yard run by Brevan Bea, then took the lead with a Dalton Payne 1-yard run for a 13-7 halftime advantage.

Payne found Jakob Davis for a 70-yard score to begin the second half.

Taylor cut into the Washougal lead with a 53-yard run but that was as close as the Bearcats came.

“We’ve just got to continue to work and clean up,” Hill said.
