2A/1A Boys: Rochester Can’t Overcome Slow Start Against Montesano

MONTESANO — Rochester was held to 8 first-half points and fell to Evergreen 2A/1A Division foe Montesano 55-43 here on Wednesday.

Noah Escott scored 21 of his 23 total points in the second half but it wasn’t enough to prevent the Bulldogs’ 11th victory of the season.

“We just weren’t ready to play and when we decided to play we had such a big hole that it just wasn’t going to work for us,” Rochester coach Mark Goldrick said. “But I’m proud of my kids for coming out in the second half and getting with it to make it a relatively close game.”

It was the second game in a row in which Escott scored over 20 points.

“Offensively he’s starting to get with it a little bit,” Goldrick said. “That’s only going to help us down the road since he’s just a junior.”

Rochester (2-13, 2-7 league) plays at Elma on Thursday.
