2A/1A Boys: Grizzlies Top Beavers, 70-49

TENINO — The Beavers added another loss to a struggling season, falling to Hoquiam by a score of 70-49 here in Evergreen 2A/1A League boys hoops play on Tuesday.

Things started competitive in the fast-paced ballgame, with Tenino trailing by just 4 at halftime. The Beavers stumbled out of the gate in the second half, allowing the Grizzlies to score 20 points consecutively in the last two remaining frames.

A large part of the deficit was due to turnovers, something Tenino has had a rough time with this season.

"We are really bad with turnovers," Tenino coach Josef Chirhart said. "We probably average about 15 turnovers a game and you're not going to win games that way. It's a tough year for us."

Thomas Pier led Tenino with 13 points while Kaleb Strawn added 12 points and six rebounds. Nihls Peterson chipped in 8 points and 12 boards.

Jack Adams III led the charge for the Grizzlies with 22 points.

"They ran away with it in the third quarter and we struggled," Chirhart said. "We didn't show defensive discipline. It's been rough, but we're just going to keep fighting."

Tenino (1-9 league, 3-10 overall) will travel to Eatonville on Thursday.
