2A/1A Boys: Fourth Quarter Surge Lifts Warriors Above Eagles

ELMA — The Warriors couldn't crack double-digits in the first three quarters, but an outburst in the final frame ended up being just enough for Rochester to defeat Elma, 52-47, here in Evergreen 2A/1A League boys hoops play on Thursday.

Rochester coach Mark Goldrick credited Elma's defense with the slow start for the Warriors.

"They were pressuring pretty good and we weren't scoring," Goldrick said. "Usually that means we're turning the ball over, but we weren't making a lot of mistakes."

At the end of the third quarter, the Eagles led 38-27. Rochester began to loosen up and knock down shots in the fourth quarter, ending with six 3-pointers in a 25-point period.

With almost two minutes left in the ballgame, the Warriors captured the lead and kept it, holding on much to Goldrick's delight.

"What I was most happy about was we got the lead with time left and we kept it together to hold them off," Goldrick said. "A slow start, but a great way to end it."

Josh Kennedy led the Warriors with 12 points and nine rebounds while Keegan Goldrick added 9. Elijah Martin led the Eagles with 15 points.

Rochester (3-7 league, 3-13 overall) will be at Aberdeen on Wednesday.
