2B Softball: Pirate Bats Heat Up in Sweep of Onalaska

Posted

ONALASKA — The Pirates rapped out 29 hits and picked up a Central 2B League doubleheader sweep of the Loggers here on Monday, by scores of 14-4 and 15-6.

Kendra Stajduhar went 8 for 11 for Adna in the matchup, including a 5 for 6 performance in the nightcap.

Adna had a 9-4 lead through three innings of play in the first game before scoring 6 unanswered runs to put the game away in six innings. Stajduhar was 3 for 5 while Shanay Dotson was 3 for 4 at the plate.

For Onalaska, Stacey Vint was 2 for 2 with two doubles and Heather Pannkuk added a double.

Eight errors in the first game hampered the Loggers' efforts.

"I thought in the first game we showed our inexperience with the eight errors," Onalaska coach Ken Ulery said. "We had that many more mental errors that led to runs as well. We're learning, and Adna is a great team. You can't have that many mental errors and expect to stay with that team."

In the second game, Adna clung to a 7-6 lead going into the top of the seventh before pouring it on with an 8-run rally. Dotson and Cheyenne Gilbertson each had three hits for the Pirates.

"We had some opportunities with two runners on in the sixth and we couldn't get the runs," Ulery said. "That was a momentum breaker for us. I thought we came out and cut down the mental errors. In the top of the seventh, Adna just came out and showed how good they are."

Onalaska got a two hits each from Jessica Paxton, Vint, Gracie Sherwood and Nikki Coleman.

Onalaska (2-2 overall, 0-2 league) will play at Wahkiakum today, while Adna (4-1 overall, 4-0 league) hosts Wahkiakum on Thursday.

Pe Ell, MWP Split

RANDLE — The Trojans eked out a 6-5 victory in the opener, but host Morton-White Pass rolled to an 11-1 win in the nightcap of a Central 2B League softball twinbill here Monday afternoon.

Kayla Hoke went 3 for 3 and hit a two-out home run in the sixth inning for Pe Ell in the early game, while teammate Cheyenne Brooks went 3 for 4.

Morton-White Pass had runners on first and second with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, down a run, but couldn't manage to tie the game.

"Pe Ell did a good job," Morton-White Pass coach Darin Allen said. "(Pitcher Dakota) Brooks kept us a little off balance, and we didn't hit all that well."

Ashley Kelly and Kylie Allen were both 2 for 3 for MWP, while Rebecca Loflin went 1 for 2.

The nightcap followed a different tune, as MWP pitcher Christine Robbins held the Trojans to four hits in a six-inning win.

"She threw a lot of ground balls for us and we made plays," Allen said, "and she limited the walks."

Robbins helped her own cause, going 2 for 4 with a home run, and Sharon Hazen was 3 for 4 for MWP. Loflin and Taylor Brooks were each 1 for 2.

"The second game, the way we played, was the way I've been thinking we're going to start out," Allen said. "We just hit the ball and got some timely hits, and in the first game we didn't."

Morton-White Pass (5-3, 1-3 league) will play at Napavine on Thursday. Pe Ell (1-3 league) will host Onalaska on Thursday.

Mossyrock Splits Double With Mules

MOSSYROCK — The Vikings had their bats working in a Central 2B League softball split with Wahkiakum here on Monday, losing the first game 5-3 before bouncing back with an 11-4 win in the nightcap.

"We kind of started off a little sluggish," Mossyrock coach Mike Carlson said. "We're still trying to plug girls in and they're still kind of fitting in spots. After we came out slow, our girls started zeroing in on their pitcher and putting the bat to the ball."

In the first game, Wahkiakum built a 5-0 lead before Mossyrock had a 3-run rally in the bottom of the sixth. The Vikings finished with nine hits, while pitcher Jocelyn Stanley struck out six and held the Mules to just five hits.

Shayne Fried went 2 for 4 with a double for Mossyrock, while Stanley was 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs. Abby Bogart had a triple, Jamie Carlson added a double and Emma Martin drove in a run.

Mossyrock's offense knocked another nine hits in the second game, as the Vikings scored 8 runs in their final two innings in an 11-4 victory. Fried walked four times and stole home while Carlson was 3 for 3 with a double and 2 RBIs. Randi Smith drove in two runs while Stanley also had an RBI, as did Savannah Lininger.

"We plugged Emma in at second base and she worked hard," Carlson said. "Kaitlin Dunlap also worked real hard at catcher. All our pitchers did well, hung in there and battled. It was a great team effort. I though all our players that we plugged in did their jobs."

Mossyrock (1-4 overall, 1-3 league) hosts Toutle Lake on Friday.
