2A Tennis: W.F. West’s Wren, Magnuson Earn Alternate Spot to State Tennis

    LACEY — W.F. West’s Aleassa Wren and Angie Magnuson finished fourth here Saturday in the District IV 2A Girls Tennis Tournament, earning a spot to the state championships as an alternate doubles team.

    Wren and Magnuson beat fellow Bearcats Megan O’Hara and Kaleen Davis in the consolation semifinals, losing the first set 6-4, winning the second 7-5 and then taking a forfeit from O’Hara and Davis in the third set for the win. Wren and Magnuson then met Washougal’s Allie Reeves and Shelby DeLong in the third/fourth match, where DeLong and Reeves won 6-4, 6-2.

    Reile Slattery, the Bearcats’ lone singles player competing Saturday, lost 6-4, 6-3 to Mark Morris’ Lauren Salberg in the consolation semifinals. Salberg then won the third/fourth matchup to earn a spot at state.



    Wren and Magnuson were voted Evergreen 2A Conference All-League first-team doubles, while O’Hara and Davis were a second-team pick. Slattery was also a second-team selection.

    W.F. West finished the season at 9-3 and second in the EvCo standings.
