SCJ Alliance in Centralia Receives State Honorable Mention for Community Involvement

The Centralia office of SCJ Alliance earned an honorable mention at the Washington Secretary of State’s Corporations for Communities Award event this month and has plans to learn from the five businesses that took home the national award.

“Thousands in corporate giving, firm-wide volunteering activities, a week’s vacation and $2,500 toward a trip for the employee who gives back the most each year — and that still that wasn’t enough to be in the top tier of corporate givers across the state,” according to a press release from SCJ Alliance.

SCJ has contributed to the United Way of Lewis County, the Centralia-Chehalis Chamber of Commerce, the Centralia Downtown Association, the Lewis County Economic Development Council, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Centralia Christian School, the Centralia College Foundation, the Chehalis Tribal Loan Fund and the Boys and Girls Club of Chehalis.

“It was an incredible honor to be recognized by Secretary Wyman with just 11 other businesses in Washington,” Jean Carr, senior principal at SCJ, said in a press release. “It was also a learning opportunity we won’t find anywhere else. The five groups who won the national medallion showed us we can keep pushing higher.”

Secretary of State Kim Wyman said the awards program is a good way to recognize companies “that go above and beyond to make a difference.” She also stated that “Washington is blessed to have so many caring companies that give back to their communities in a variety of ways.”

SCJ is a professional services firm that specializes in civil engineering, transportation planning and design, landscape architecture and design, environmental and urban planning and public outreach. It has been nationally recognized multiple times as a good place to work, for the company’s growth and for other award-winning projects, stated the release.
