Ronnie M. Broom

Ronnie M. Broom, 81, passed away unexpectdly Saturday, June 30, 2018, at home in Centralia. He  was born Aug. 16, 1936, in  Tuckasegee, N.C., to Rueben M. Broom and Irona (Watson) Broom.

Ronnie attended school in North Carolina and joined the United States Navy in 1953, where he continued his education. He served in the Navy for four years, one year aboard the air craft carrier, U.S.S. Boxer CVS21. Upon discharge form  the Navy he moved to Washington and worked for International Paper Company in Longview. In 1960, he went to work for the Weyerhauser Company where he worked as a timber faller in the South Toutle area until his retirement thirty-four  years later.

In 1959, he married Patricia Booth. They moved to Winlock where they raised their two children. He was active in many comunity and school functions. Ronnie enjoyed gardening and landscaping at the family home. He also enjoyed the time he spent  hunting and fishing with his son, Rick. He always said his favorite job was as "Papa Day Care" for his grandson Steven. Ronnie's best times were spent with his family.

In 2003, Ronnie and Patricia sold the family home in Winlock and moved to Centralia where he worked for N.W. Merchant Patrol as a security guard at the Lewis County Law and Justice Building in Chehalis for 15 years.    



Ronnie was preceded in death by his father, Rueben Broom; mother, Irona Wike; and brother, Bobby Broom. 

He is survived by wife, Patricia; son, Richard (Julie) of Adna; daughter, Pamela Carl (Mike) of Centralia;  grandchildren, Sarah Broom, Steven Broom and Kayleen Slade (Kris); brothers, Marty Broom (Kathy) of Idaho and Mike Wike (Brenda); sister, Brenda MacIntosh; plus several neices and nephews.

In accordance with Ronnie's wishes, there will be a private burial at Little Falls Cemetery. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the Riverside Fire Department, Centralia Police Department, Lewis County Coroners Office and the Lewis County Chaplaincy Services for their kindness and compassion.
