Corrections: Nov. 9

An article in the Oct. 31 edition of The Chronicle incorrectly described a proposed assessment on properties in Lewis County Flood Control District 1.

Property owners in the district will be assessed as follows: The county will calculate each parcel’s total improved value plus half its land value and proportionally assess a tax on each parcel based on how much of the district’s total value it represents. Each landowner will then be assessed their portion of the district’s total budget. For example, if the district’s budget is $1,000, a property might be assessed anywhere from a few dollars to a few hundred. For a larger budget, the assessment would increase.

The Chronicle regrets the error. A public hearing on the assessment is scheduled for 10 a.m. Nov. 25 at the Lewis County Courthouse.
