Power Outages Strike Lewis County Area

Posted

Lights are out in many areas of Lewis and south Thurston counties as officials at the Lewis County Public Utility District, Centralia City Light and Puget Sound Energy reported power outages in more than 30 areas on Monday afternoon due to severe winds.

Lewis County PUD reports outages in dozens of areas including Onalaska, Napavine, Salkum, Ethel, Winlock, Vader and Toledo. Jason Olson, an engineering technician at PUD, said the utility has five crews out working to restore the power but most people won’t see their lights come back on until tonight.

“We have a lot of wires down,” Olson told The Chronicle early in the afternoon. “But it should be back up fairly quickly.”

Rick Evans at Centralia City Light said just one isolated area was experiencing an outage near Proffitt Road but crews should have it restored within the hour. Additionally, the Seminary Hill and the North Pearl Street to Sawall Road areas had outages earlier Monday.

Puget Sound Energy was also reporting outages in Thurston, Pierce, King and Kitsap counties Monday. Officials remind people to assume any down power line is energized, keep clear and call officials to report the location.

Puget Sound Energy can be reached at (888) 225-5773, Centralia City Light at 330-7512 and Lewis County PUD at 748-9261.
