Letter to the Editor: The Man in the White House is Not the Man of the People

Posted

It seems like it wasn’t too long ago we were told by nearly everyone that the U.S. debt was out of control so we needed to tighten our belts. In stark contrast, today we have a president who is doing a lot to see how much money he and his administration can spend.

If you have been following the news I don’t need to elaborate. Let me just say the man in the White House pretending to be a man of the people, I would argue, is not. Now we have a clearer picture of just what kind of an individual he is.

It wasn’t enough for his party to convince people that the Affordable Health Care Act was not in their best interest or that we needed to give the wealthiest a tax cut even though infrastructure is in need of repair and higher education costs keep soaring. He would fix everything with his great brain and we would have beautiful health care plans.

Now we see that he is willing to separate families fleeing gangs and threats of violence from Central American countries seeking asylum in the U.S. He blames this on Democrats in Congress even though there is not a law that requires this.

It is his administration’s new policy — separate children from mothers and fathers. All living first ladies have spoken out against this new policy. Congress is scrambling to work on legislation that stops this. Will he continue with this policy that terrorizes little children who have traveled so far and seen so much hardship already?

As I write this, we have women incarcerated in a SeaTac federal detention center, apart from their children who are who knows where. It seems we saw this movie before during World War II with the internment of Japanese Americans.

Currently the administration is setting up tent facilities on the border to house more children. Who profits from the increasing expense of housing kids? Tent makers, food service providers, security personnel? Is this MAGA in action? As your gas prices rise and you contemplate higher grocery costs, think about these poor kids in cages.

I am not seeing how you can justify having voted for this person for perhaps a Supreme Court justice or for your position on abortion. That is single-issue voting. Look what you have now, a person that has even used the Bible to justify the incarceration of poor people fleeing violence and then separating them from their children. I am fairly certain this is not what Jesus would do.
