Let’s Set Limits on Length of Laws
To the editor:
Here is a proposal that could save us trillions of dollars. I propose that all new federal laws and bills be limited to no more than 7,842 words, the number of words in the U.S. Constitution.
I also propose that all new state, county and city laws and bills be limited to 1,337 words, the number of words in the Declaration of Independence. Just think, if laws and bills had these limits, then there would be limited room for political pork, and these laws and bills might actually get read before the final vote.

Let’s Bring Automobile Factory to Lewis County
To the editor:
I don’t understand why the county commissioners or city councilors don’t try to get an automobile manufacturing plant in this county. I think a Honda or Toyota plant would employ more employees then the Fred Meyer or Lowe’s distribution centers, and McDonald’s or Walmart combined.
It doesn’t count when the commissioners think that a $12 an hour job is enough for a family of four to survive in this world. I promise you I will donate $20 to the Republican Party if they can do this task within five years. (My stomach is getting upset already thinking of this prospect.)
Do the commissioners have enough guts to do this, or are they a little too chicken to fulfill the task? We’ll just have to wait and see.

Dems’ Health Care Plans Ignore GOP Ideas
To the editor:
President Barack Obama’s love affair with the American voter is over, with his poll numbers dropping and 56-60 percent of those voters in recent polls opposing the far-left plan of Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, Sen. Jack Reed and the president. Why in heaven’s name would anyone want to follow a plan from the two leaders of the House and Senate when their poll numbers are in the low to high 20s?
We all want a revamp of our health care system, including the GOP, of which I am a member. The Dems would like you to believe that because we are opposed to their plan that we are against health care reform. That is so naive of the Democrats and is typical of the mindset of those in power today. Just because we want discussion on a wide range of solutions before the final package is done does not make us unpatriotic, brown shirts, or fear mongers using scare tactics.
There were Americans from all three parties there, and perhaps Joyce Castilloux in her letter dated Sept. 5 (page Main 10, “Don’t Let GOP Stop You, President Obama”) never watches anything other then CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, ABC, the New York Times or all the forms of media that slant everything to the left so that mainstream America sees only their point of view.
I resent her remarks that the GOP wants to destroy America and stand for nothing. I watch Fox and am proud of it (fair and balanced). Why is it that the Dems resent anyone who happens to be on the other side? How foolish. Both parties need to work together to solve our problems, not just the agenda of the far left.
I do not want the government in charge of any more programs, as they have proven time and time again to be completely inept at running them with any resemblance of success. I want my doctor in charge.
During his campaign, Obama promised change in Washington, D.C., and in the way things would get done. He would work with both sides of the aisle. What a farce statement that was, as every plan the GOP has proposed on health care has been voted down. What happened to no more lobbyists, no more pork barrel spending?
He has failed those who voted for change, and those like me who wanted that type of change to happen also. I blame both parties for not listening to the voters but doing what is good for them and those who want rewards for paying millions of dollars to their campaign, as opposed to the majority of the American people.
Please look at tort reform and allowing us to buy insurance across state lines and be more competitive, and put some guidelines in place for the insurance industry. Is that so hard to do? I would demand a 72-hour window to read the bill, and at least maybe our leaders would read the darn bill for a change.
One member of the Senate said it would take too long to read the bill and he doesn’t have time. Then he needs to retire, as he is failing in his job and does not deserve to be paid his salary.
That is the type of leadership we have in Washington, D.C. What a shame and a sham on the American people.
