Letters to the Editor: Story is Troubling, Why Close Maple Lane?

If News Story Is True, We’re in Trouble

To the editor:

An article titled “Poll: Obama Rebounds with Voters, Would Beat Republican Rivals” found in the Nation/World section of The Chronicle Jan. 14 raises some very serious issues. Either journalist Steven Thomma, writing for McClatchy Newspapers, is a lackey for this administration and this article should have been placed in the comic section of the paper or we as a nation are in dire trouble.

Could it possibly be that after all the Chicago-style political corruption that has taken place under this administration, the greatest theft of wealth from the majority of Americans ever, the shredding of the Constitution and Bill of Rights, the continuous wars, the rendition of prisoners and further torture, the expansion of our involvement in more wars in the Middle East (even after the usurper-president pledged to bring our troops home), the highest unemployment since the Great Depression, the devaluing of our monetary system, the socializing of the auto, insurance and banking system, the invasive surveillance, the monitoring of our library selections, banking and Internet activity, the failure to secure our borders, and the immoral overturning of the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy, we would really re-elect President Barack Obama?

After all this, and I could continue the list of other criminal activities perpetrated by these fascist/socialist occupants of the White House, could a majority of Americans really be so brain-dead as to want another four years of the trashing of America?

The article continues with the pitting of Obama against three Republican challengers: Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee and Sarah Palin, claiming that it would be a cakewalk for Obama winning by double digit figures.

While I’m no fan of these three potential Republican candidates, if this so-called poll numbers are correct, we as a nation are in deep trouble.

There is a point in the life of any nation when that point is crossed there can be no restoration. America is at that critical moment in time where it will either repent and return to its Christian heritage or go the way of all fallen nations of history.

I know that even writing an article such as this, identifying the criminal activity that we as a nation have been enduring under this administration, will probably be seen as a “hate crime.” Sad, isn’t it, that we have slid this far in becoming a nation run by dictatorial edicts (executive orders). In such a society, free speech must be quenched, which is what we are currently seeing take place.

It then becomes only a matter of time before the dissenters are rounded up and shipped off to indoctrination centers or far worse.

The time to respond is now, not tomorrow. Those who refuse to stand up and fight for truth and freedom deserve neither. A book further detailing the numerous crimes committed by this administration is: “Crimes Against Liberty,” by David Limbaugh. May God wake America before it’s too late!

Maple Lane Plan is a Boondoggle

 To the editor:

I am thoroughly amazed that the state would close down any existing institution, Maple Lane, only to construct a new one. It is impossible to fathom the thickness of the skulls where all of this new institution poppycock originated.

This is a reception center? We are to feel sorry for the Legislature and a whining governor because they are having difficulty coming up with means by which they can fleece taxpayers. And they want to close, remodel, build, demolish and open a what?

What a juggling act. Pity the ding dong who attempts to make us believe that this makes sense. Washington has a $7.4 billion shortfall, and it is going to splurge and put up a new prison annex, as it were, in Southwest Washington that has Naselle, Green Hill, Maple Lane and Shelton.

Is this called Washington’s “Swinging Door Policy?” Do you suppose the word has gotten out that prison facilities, with all their amenities, good food, free medical, dental, movies, TV, Wi-Fi and DSL computer access, are heaven on Earth? Well, sort of.

Hey, I’ve got an idea. Since economic conditions seem to determine which community has the greatest need perhaps the Department of Corrections should build a mini-reception center in each of the depressed communities and that will make everyone happy, and seemingly reduce the state’s deficit.

That will also satisfy those who like to dig up virgin land and poor concrete and blacktop to remove that ugly green color our grasslands reflect when the sun shines.

    Enough. This is absurd.
