Letter to the Editor: There Is Something Lacking in Anyone Who Would Condone Torture of Animals

Posted

I can’t let some recent readers’ opinions go without comment and rebuttal. When reading my opinion, you will see how it ties into the tragedy in Florida.

Why it is important for Baby Jay’s owners to seek justice:

First, I’ll say it leaves decent people shaking their heads in disbelief, knowing that an 11-year-old girl initiated this despicable crime. Who were the adults and why didn’t they stop this instead of using a knife on this dying animal? Those of us who are appalled by this are not disgruntled animal rights activist, as implied by the deputy prosecuting attorney. We all appreciate law enforcement and the courts, but this remark was arrogant and insensitive.

I strongly disagree with letter writer Addison DeBoer. Those who care about Baby Jay are not trying to stir up trouble. Trouble found Baby Jay, a sweet, defenseless animal. Perhaps the 21-year-old who stabbed him should have been working instead of joining a group of girls who were crushing, torturing and trying to kill someone’s helpless pet.

Imagine “squeezing” all you naysayers a little too hard, throw you off a second-story balcony a couple times, then bash you in the head with a rock. Along comes your savior, who stabs you a few times to put you out of your misery. As you’re lying there dying, he’s explaining to police he’s just trying to help.

This is what happened to someone’s beautiful kitten.

Yes, the country sure as hell is going in the wrong direction when a person would actually defend this behavior because the victim has four legs instead of two.

What is the background of the young people? Have their parents counseled them since this deplorable incident in 2016? These young people were old enough to know better. The 11-year-old girl was placed in a juvenile court diversion program. How is she doing, after two years? I’d like to know.

Look up the “Promise Program,” implemented by the Obama Administration, and you’ll understand why. Remember, that shooter in Florida enjoyed torturing and killing helpless animals. His friends knew this. Did his friends actually condone this? Obviously, the Florida police knew it. It was on the sewer known as the internet. Was anything done about it? If it had been litigated, and been on a police record, could he have bought a gun? When he became old enough, he was able to buy a gun. He switched from helpless animals to helpless humans.

It is a known fact that animal abusers can turn into killers. Let’s hope these children, and adults, who committed this crime will acquire remorse and empathy, with age.

Yes, it was a crime.

Yes, some of us do consider our pets as our children, and members of the family. We love them just as much and care for them properly. In some cases they are more valuable than the human debris roaming the earth and causing chaos in the world. There is a difference between animal lovers and radical animal rights activists. There is something lacking in people who treat living creatures as if they have no feelings.

These are my unsolicited opinions.
