Letter to the Editor: Thank You to Volunteers After Loss of Teacher

Posted

On behalf of the Onalaska School District, I would like to thank those who volunteered to assist us as we dealt with the loss of one of our teachers. Robin Schmidt, died Friday as the result of a car accident on state Highway 508.

Robin was an outstanding professional educator who touched the lives of thousands of students during her 17-year teaching career in Onalaska. She will be sorely missed.

As we dealt with this tragedy, our main concern was taking care of our staff and students who suffered this loss of a well respected teacher and colleague. We reached out to our community to assist us in working through this loss with our Ony family of students and staff.

The following groups and organizations were a tremendous help to us in dealing with our loss: Onalaska Community Presbyterian Church, Onalaska Assembly of God Church, Winlock Assembly of God Church, Bethel Church, Jackson Prairie Church, New Beginnings Church, Capital Region ESD 113 Crisis Response Team and Cascade Mental Health Crisis Response Team. I apologize if I left anyone out.

The pastors of these local churches and the Crisis Response Teams were instrumental in counseling our staff and students as we worked through our grief. We could not have dealt with this by ourselves as hundreds of staff and students were impacted by this loss.

A big thank you goes out to all of you for your commitment to our school district and assistance in our time of need. You made a difference in the lives of all of us affected by this loss of Robin Schmidt.

As we begin the recovery process, we will continue to count on these groups and organizations to offer support to those impacted by this loss. Thanks again for being there and offering your expertise in our time of need.
