Letter to the Editor: OB-GYNs Thank Herrera Beutler for Legislation

Posted

The nation’s ob-gyns extend our sincerest gratitude to Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Washington, for her tireless dedication to maternal health and for sponsoring the Preventing Maternal Deaths Act.

Thanks to her leadership, the U.S. Congress last week passed House Resolution 1318, now at the president’s desk for enactment. This landmark legislation has been a long-held goal for the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and is a crucial step to reversing our country’s alarming rise in maternal mortality.

The Preventing Maternal Deaths Act authorizes federal funding for multidisciplinary entities known as maternal mortality review committees that review each individual case of maternal death. MMRCs are key to developing locally relevant strategies to eliminate preventable maternal mortality.

Thank you, Rep. Herrera Beutler, for helping save mothers’ lives.
