Letter to the Editor: Master Gardeners Thank Community

Posted

The Master Gardener Foundation of Lewis County would like to thank the community for its ongoing support of our annual plant sale.

Our foundation is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization and the plant sale is our primary fundraiser, providing funds critical to meeting the financial needs of Lewis County’s WSU Extension Master Gardener program.

In partnership with Lewis County Extension, the foundation supports free gardening related education for the public on through 10 workshops at our demonstration gardens, two all-day “Gardening for Everyone” workshops at Centralia College, and our regularly scheduled Plant Clinics to help diagnose plant problems, plant and insect identification and gardening concerns.

We also support four WSU Extension demonstration gardens located at Fort Borst Park in Centralia, Providence Place in Chehalis, Salkum Garden at the Timberland Regional Library in Salkum and Southwest Washington Fairgrounds, as well as an award-winning youth gardening and education curriculum at Toledo Elementary and R.E. Bennett schools.

In addition, the Master Gardener Foundation of Lewis County offers three scholarships to worthy students at Centralia College.

We would also like to thank all those who supported our plant sale through advertising as well as Walmart, which let us use 100 of their shopping carts.

If you like getting your hands dirty in the garden and want to meet people who share your interest in gardening, you should consider becoming a Master Gardener by calling Art Fuller at 360-740-1216 or email art.fuller@lewiscountywa.gov.
