Letter to the Editor: Increased Taxes Hard on Small Landlords

Posted

I am a landlord in Centralia. Several of my renters do seasonal work such as picking ferns, mushrooms and cedar boughs. They work hard and they are fine people. Several of my tenants are just scraping by financially.

I will likely have to raise their rent by $40 to $50 per month, just to cover my tax increases, resulting from new school buildings, teachers pay raises, and now an increase in the school levy.

This rent increase, primarily to support Centralia’s schools, may make the difference between being able to afford a place to live, or not. If you are concerned about homelessness in Centralia, then please vote no on this upcoming school levy.
