I have read many letters telling people why they should vote for Carolyn Long for Congress. Well, here is one more reason. Republican House Majority Leader Paul Ryan has been saying publicly for years that he wants to cut Medicaid, Social Security and Medicare.
Last Tuesday, Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell reaffirmed his support to cut those programs as well, especially if the Republicans keep control of the House and Senate. The Republican leadership is saying that after their $1.5 trillion tax cut (primarily for corporations and wealthy individuals) and their $675 billion defense bill, both of which helped to increase the deficit by 17 percent in one year, they now want to pay for those bills by cutting benefits to the elderly and poor (and the elderly have earned their benefits under Medicare and Social Security)!
If you think that is wrong, then you should vote for Carolyn Long. She wants to preserve those programs. If you don’t believe what I wrote about Ryan and McConnell, just Google “Fox News Lloyd Green Paul Ryan Wants To Cut Medicare.”
Additionally, I find The Chronicle’s tepid endorsement of Jaime Herrera Beutler disappointing, to say the least. It sounds as if she is being reluctantly endorsed just because she is a Republican. This insults the intelligence of the voters in our district, especially the voters who tend to vote Republican.
It is obvious Jaime has refused to hold in-person town halls and is refusing to debate Carolyn because she doesn’t think she has to. She thinks that people in our district will vote for her just because she is a Republican, and now The Chronicle has confirmed that belief.
This misses the whole point of Carolyn Long’s campaign — People Over Politics. While Jaime refuses to hold in-person town halls so she can meet with her constituents, Carolyn has now held 44 and she is energized by doing so!
She loves meeting people in the district and hearing our concerns. She wants to solve the problems of this district. We deserve a Representative in Congress who not only wants to work for us, but who actually wants to meet us. Vote for Carolyn Long!
