Letter to the Editor: Heartfelt Thanks for Lewis County’s Generosity

Posted

On Friday, Oct. 26, I got off the train in Centralia at 5:30 p.m. with the intention of waiting in the station until my grandson could get off work, pick up his family and then pick me up.

The station closed at 5 p.m. for construction. I notified my grandson that I would take a taxi to the hotel and he should meet me there. I started looking for a telephone number for a taxi, but didn’t see one posted.

There was a Halloween party just starting close by. I asked if anyone had a number for the taxi. A gentleman stepped up with his smart phone, looked up the number, called and made arrangements for me to be picked up. Then he and his friend made sure my luggage was carefully stowed away and I was safely in the taxi.

Later that evening, my grandson, his wife and four children and I were at Denny’s restaurant in Chehalis for dinner. We were almost finished with dinner when the waiter came over to tell us that our entire tab had been paid by an anonymous couple who had already left the restaurant.

There were seven of us and we had all had dinners, so it wasn’t a small tab.

My heartfelt thanks to these wonderful people of Lewis County. It meant a lot to all of us.

Thanks again.
