Letter to the Editor: An Open Letter to Jaime Herrera Beutler

Congresswoman Herrera Beutler

I don’t know how you can look at yourself in the mirror. I would never have thought that serving the citizens of the United States of America and your district could become serving the corruption of our democracy that your party is presently engaging in.

By their behavior in the current impeachment hearings, members of your party are, even now, attempting to make the House of Representatives little more than a third rate circus sideshow. Indeed GOP behavior is more akin to a troop of howler monkeys hurling feces than to any kind of deliberative body.

Not a single representative of the one-time party of Lincoln has questioned any of the factual information being presented before the committees. Instead the members of your party, acting one supposes, on direction from your “Chosen One” continuously hurl invective in place of objective questions.

No one is immune to the besmirchment and character assassination. Career diplomats, decorated military officers, learned professors of the law, all are targets of the verbal feces.

It used to be that serving in the Congress of the United States was as honorable and prestigious a calling as any American could hope to attain.

That has obviously changed. Today members of your political party, the once upon a time “Party of Lincoln” has molded itself into a religious cult, the Cult of Trump.

If America is to remain a representative democracy no individual can be above the law. What you and your fellow Cult of Trump members are doing is exactly the opposite of good governance.

What is on display in front of the entire world is a cult intent upon protecting their messiah at any cost. The rule of law in the United States of America, the Constitution, nothing else matters.

That your party is intent on ignoring every instance of blatant illegality and your total disregard for our system of checks and balances is now open and exposed for all to see.

Congresswoman, the damage is done. Your partys’ refusal to hold to account a runaway power mad chief executive is obvious. Despite the efforts of the talking heads at Fox, the American people are seeing for themselves the emptiness of the character of Donald John Trump.
