Letter: Dog Owner Admonished

Posted

This morning I was on my walk, and as I am approaching a home, I see a little girl, maybe around 10 years of age. She was holding a bigger dog with a leash, and when the dog saw me, he/she starting rearing up and barking.

The little girl was holding on as much as she could, but the dog got away and ran toward me.

Then an adult male came running and yelling at the dog. The dog did go back in the yard.

As I was walking away, the adult male was very angry, yelling and screaming cuss and swear words, and it wasn’t at the dog. He was blaming her for that incident. An adult that has a dog should learn how to take care of a dog with commands, etc., then teach others he lives with to do the same.

It is the adult’s responsibility to train a dog. Making this the child’s fault is sure sending a horrible message to her.

If adults can’t teach dogs and children, they shouldn’t have either.
