Willie Compton Jr., 83, of Chehalis, Wash., passed away Thursday, Jan. 23, 2020. He was born in Floyd County, Ky., Dec. 26, 1936, to Willie Sr. and Mattie (Meade) Compton. Willie served our country as part of the United States Navy from 1955 to 1963, enlisting while living in Glenoma.

Following his time in the service, Willie returned to school and earned his associate’s degree in applied science. He later worked in the timber industry as a logger. Willie was a loving father who enjoyed spending time with friends and family. His favorite past-times included hunting and camping at Iron Creek in Randle.

Willie was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Mattie; brothers, Lymial, Ralph, Dell, Kenny and Lowell Compton; sisters, Edith Bloomstrom, Joyce Workman and Daisy Kelly; and grandparents, Luke and Nina Compton and John and Melissa Meade.

He is survived by his sons, Danny, James and Randy Compton; daughters, Brenda Ashworth and Brenda Young; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Phil Compton, Connie Ulery and Cindy Beattie.

Graveside inurnment with military honors will begin at 1 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 1, 2020, at Morton City Cemetery, 812 Westlake Ave., Morton, Wash.
