Wanda Lee Cowan

Wanda Lee Cowan, 79, died Oct. 10, 2014 at Providence Centralia Hospital in Centralia, Washington. She was born in Meadow, Texas, in 1935 to Herschel and Gertrude (Taylor) Brooks and was the youngest of five children.

She met N.L. Cowan at Texas Tech in Lubbock, Texas and they married in 1953. Wanda graduated from Texas Tech in 1955 with a degree in Home Economics. They moved to Washington in 1958 and had lived in Mossyrock since 1969. She taught Home Economics in Naselle, Washington for seven years and was the school librarian for Mossyrock from 1969-1972.

After N.L.’s retirement in 1988, they traveled to all seven continents. One of her favorite trips was riding elephants in India during a monsoon. Wanda was a wonderful grandmother who liked to spoil her grandchildren when they were little. She was happiest being with her family and traveling with them.

Wanda is survived by her husband of 60 years, N.L. Cowan; two daughters, Cindi (Howard) Grewe of Edgewood, Washington and Janis (Pete) Ward of Pasco, Washington; four grandsons, Alex and Ben Grewe and Jeremy and Zachary Ward; and two brothers, Claude Brooks of Edmond, Oklahoma and Loyd Brooks of Tokio, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Myra Sutton and Erma Williams.

A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 18, 2014 at Sticklin Funeral Chapel in Centralia.
