Verna Lee North

Verna Lee North, 95, of Beaverton, Ore., passed away at her residence Thursday, Dec. 26, 2019. She was born in Woodward, Okla., March 30, 1924, to Vern and Rozella (Pearson) Chandler.

Verna was adopted and raised by her grandparents, Orra and Sadie Chandler. She graduated in 1942, from Adna High School in Adna, Wash. Soon after graduation, she married her high school sweetheart, Sam North, in the neighboring city of Chehalis, June 7, 1942. Verna was a happy homemaker for 70 years. She enjoyed gardening and traveling around the United States. Her favorite trips were to Alaska and to New England to see the fall foliage.

Vera enjoyed spending time with her friends playing card games and belonged to several local groups, including Sam’s Club and Garden Club, where she was president for a time. She was a member of both the Chehalis and Centralia Christian Churches.

Verna was preceded in death by her husband, Sam; infant daughter, Patricia Ann North; daughter, Linda Lee West; her parents, Vern and Rozella; and grandparents, Orra and Sadie.

She is lovingly remembered by her children, Sheryl Myer and Steve (Doreen) North; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and half siblings, Bob and Barbara Jean.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 25, 2020, at Sticklin Funeral Chapel. Interment will immediately follow Saturday’s visitation at Claquato Cemetery, 142 Stearns Rd., Chehalis, Wash. A memorial service will begin at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 25, 2020, also at Sticklin Funeral Chapel.
