Thea Rowena Helene “Sue” Armstrong

Thea Rowena Helene “Sue” Armstrong was born in Whittier, Calif., to George and Myrtle Armstrong.

She graduated from Fullerton Union High School and attended college in Missouri before being married to a returning soldier, Vernon Bray Jr., in 1948. Sue and Vernon lived in southern California before relocating to the Pacific Northwest in 1968, eventually settling in Toledo, Wash. She was a homemaker until Vernon’s death in 1975. After that, Sue worked in the library in the Toledo School District, and then for many years at the Toledo Telephone Company until her retirement.

She was a quilter, knitter, canner, bridge player and avid reader. She enjoyed attending civic theater productions and traveling, especially her trips to England to visit relatives.

Sue was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Jr.; and her oldest son, Robert.

She is survived by her children, Bruce Bray (Sandy) of Toledo, Robin Bray of Vancouver, Ellen (Chris) McGlothlin of Brush Prairie, and Phillip (Jill) Bray of Deer Park, Wash.; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Burial will take place at Lone Hill Cemetery in Toledo. Memorial contributions may be made to the Toledo Senior Center, P.O. Box 554, Toledo, WA 98591.
