Shirley Vera McDougal, 81, of Oakville, Wash., gained her angel wings Thursday, Dec. 6, 2018, in Olympia, Wash. She was born Feb. 23, 1937, in Newport, Vt.

Shirley grew up in Enfield Center, N.H., and married Roger C. Hall in 1955. In 1964, she and Roger moved to Quilcene, Wash., making their home in the area until their move to Oakville, Wash., in 1969. Roger passed away July 10, 1973, and in 1975, she married Charles ‘Buddy’ McDougal. With this marriage, she "inherited" three children, or "blessings", whom she dearly loved.

Shirley was a nursery technician for Weyerhauser for 20 years, and loved being surrounded by the trees at her home. She loved her family, her donkeys, dogs, gardening and cooking. Shirley was known for her hot and spicy pickles. She would gift a jar at a time to visitors throughout the year. She was also known for her fried potatoes with bacon grease and onions, and her potato salad.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a baby brother; and two sisters.

Shirley is lovingly remembered by her husband, Buddy; three children; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three brothers; and one sister.

A grave side service will take place at 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 15,  2018, with Malynda Wilson officiating.

Shirley always made sure to tell us that she had the best life, that she loved us, and that we were such a blessing. She would also ask visitors if they were thirsty. In her honor, we ask those of you that knew and loved Shirley to have a “snort” (drink) on her!
