Paul Jacobson, 90, passed away at his home in Mossyrock, Wash., Monday, Oct. 21, 2019, with family by his side. His family now takes great comfort knowing that he has entered Heaven’s gate.

Paul was born in Lake Crystal, Minn., April 12, 1929, to Ed and Millie Jacobson. Leaving Minnesota in 1947, he came to Mossyrock to live with his uncle, Ed Taylor. It was soon after that he helped to establish the Tubafor Mill in Morton, Wash., continuing to work there as a mechanic for the next 45 years.

Shortly after moving to Mossyrock, Paul asked to be introduced to “that piano player” at the Mossyrock Community Church. Two years later, he married Barbara Jean Core Aug. 18, 1950. They recently celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary.

Paul was a quiet man who often enjoyed the solitude of gardening and was quite successful at producing an impressive bounty of fruits and vegetables, which were shared with others in the community. While he often chose to work independently, he was quick to jump in and help any and all in need. His work ethic was unbeatable and he never gave less than his best.

While he had an incredible work ethic, he was best known for his long-standing loyalty to the Mossyrock Vikings Sports Teams. He rarely missed any of the ball games whether home or away. His enjoyment reached its highlight during the years that he got to watch all three of his grandsons during their junior high and senior high years. He was honored with a Viking Jacket by the Mossyrock Booster Club, which he wore proudly. Paul had a great love for the game of cribbage and would play for hours with any opponent willing to join him. He enjoyed many matches with his grandsons who played the game with a quest to be known as the “king” of cribbage and win the “crown” from Grandpa Paul.

Paul was preceded in death by his eldest son, Raymond; brothers, Pearl and Kenneth; and sisters, Esther and Fern.

He leaves behind his wife of 69 years, Barbara of Mossyrock, Wash.; his son, Ron (Becky) of Salkum, Wash.; and his daughter, Lisa Jacobson of Olympia, Wash. He is also survived by a sister, Margel (Dick) Woltman of Minnesota.

Grandpa Paul played a special part in the lives of his three grandsons, Christopher Jacobson of Kelso, Wash., Jason Jacobson of San Antonio, Texas, and Michael (Sarah) Jacobson of Mifflintown, Pa. He greatly loved and was loved immensely by his great-grandchildren Willow, Piper, Riley, and Andrew.

Family and friends are welcome to join together for a graveside service at 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 9, 2019, at Dunn Cemetery, U.S. Highway 12, Mossyrock, Wash. All are welcome to join the family for light refreshments following the service at the Salkum Community Church, 149 Wilcox Rd., Salkum, Wash.

Thank you so much to all of our friends in the community who rallied together to help in our support and care of Paul during this very difficult time. Your kindnesses have touched us deeply and mean so much.
