Paul Frederick Wagner, of Pe Ell, Wash., 82, passed away Thursday, Jan. 10, 2019, at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, Wash., after a brief illness. He was born June 30, 1936, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Frederick Edward and Pauline Agnes (Bachmann) Wagner. After graduating from St. Xavier High School, he served our country with the United States Navy.

Paul found employment with Boeing in Seattle in 1961, and in 1973, married his decade-long sweetheart, Opal Viola Kincaid Muretta. Together, they enjoyed the great Pacific Northwest outdoors and being loving grandparents, aunts and uncles to many.

Paul moved to Pe Ell after Opal’s death in 2001. In recent years, he sang in church choirs in Pe Ell and Centralia. He kept busy with carpentry, music, home-brewed ale, gardening, fishing with family and generally, living every moment of life, giving to others and appreciating God’s gifts.

Paul is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Opal; brothers, Roger, Frederick and Karl Wagner; and sister, Roselyn Wagner.

He is survived by sons, Dennis and Steve Muretta; grandson, Jeff Muretta currently of Frankfurt, Germany, his wife, Katharina and their children, Sonja, Jena and Ella Muretta; grandson, Greg and his wife, Suzanne of Seattle; brothers, Dennis and Gregory of Cincinnati; sister, Mary Beth of Vidalia, Ga.; and many other family members in Washington, Ohio and Florida.

A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2019, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Frances, Wash. Visitation will take place from 11 a.m. to 12:50 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 16,  2019, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pe Ell, to be followed by the funeral mass in the church at 1 p.m. Interment will take place immediately thereafter at the German Catholic Cemetery in Pe Ell. All are cordially invited to a potluck reception in the church hall following the service and interment.
