Neal Nogler

Neal Nogler was born Oct. 24, 1926, in Ballard, Wash., and died March 11, 2018, in Olympia, Wash.

He entered the United States Marine Corps as a teenager during World War II and was stationed in Guam on the Pacific front. Neal met his wife of 65 years, Lilis Carpenter, while they were students at the University of Washington.

Lilis and Neal were traveling educators and had four children, Thomas, Jeffrey, Timothy and Stephen, all who survive him. He also is survived by his wife, Lilis; and six grandchildren.

Neal’s journey included Benge; Port Angeles, Wash.; Westbury, Long Island, N.Y.; Oakville, Chehalis, Centralia, Grapeview and Olympia, Wash. He was a lifelong Democrat and admired Adlai Ewing Stevenson.  

Neal was dedicated to his family and many causes, including community work through the Lions Club, the Audubon Society, Amnesty International and the Southern Poverty Law Center.  

A gathering to share memories will take place Sunday, March 25, 2018, at 2 p.m., at Yauger Park Villas Community Center, 322 Lachman Lane SW, Olympia, WA 98502. May Neal rest in peace.
