Nathan Elmer Howell

Nathan Elmer Howell, 88, passed away peacefully at Providence Centralia Hospital March 29, 2019. He was born Dec. 28, 1930, in Doty, Wash., to Emma Rose Howell and Elmer Howell.

Nathan attended school in Pe Ell and went on to earn an associates degree from Centralia College. On April 7, 1951, he married Logie Mae Smaciarz at St. Joseph Church in Pe Ell, Wash., and together they raised four daughters, Janet Grange of Centralia, Jody (Wayne) Williams of Lake Tapps, Julie (John) Conzatti of Centralia and Joanne (Robert) File of Snohomish.

Nathan worked for Weyerhaeuser Company for 45 years, until his retirement at the age of 62. He was also a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church and a member of the Fraternal Order of the Freemasons for over 65 years. Nathan was also a volunteer firefighter. There is nothing he enjoyed more than tending to his cattle and puttering on his farm in Pe Ell, Wash.

He is survived by his children; as well as his grandchildren, Tara Grange, Tana Curtright, Allison (Jesse) Orton, Anne Conzatti, Abigail Conzatti, Jennifer Williams, Jackson Williams, John File and Joe File; great-granddaughter, Gia Orton; sister-in-law, Ellen Howell; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Nathan was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Logie Howell, who passed away March 20, 2019; parents; bother, Wayne Howell; and son-in-law, Steven Grange.

Nathan’s family will miss him immensely, but will take great comfort in knowing he was reunited with the love of his life, Logie, in Heaven.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to your favorite charity in memory of Nathan.

A private service will be held at a later date.
