Nancy Jean (Vogel) Suyat, born Nov. 8, 1943, in Central City, Neb., died in Portland, Ore., at Oregon Health & Science University Hospital after a brief battle with cancer June 6, 2018. Nancy was the second of eight girls born to Dan and Marcella Vogel.

She graduated from Onalaska High School in 1962. After meeting and marrying Mariano (John) Suyat Oct. 19, 1968, she lived in Virginia, Florida and Cuba. John retired with 20 years in the United States Navy and they settled in Vancouver, Wash., in 1975.

When her parents passed, Nancy took over full-time care of her sister, Kristi, enriching both their lives. She loved sharing her passion for sewing, often taking items apart to remake them as her own designs and gifting them to family and friends.

Nancy will be remembered as the “keeper of stories”. She told many funny tales which were based in fact with a healthy dose of embellishment.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday, June 13, 2018, at 2 p.m., at Claquato Cemetery, Chehalis, Wash., with a potluck reception to follow.
