Michael D. Rogers, 63, passed away Feb. 26, 2018, in Chehalis, Wash., at his home for the past 31 years. He was born Oct. 1, 1954, to Doris Maia (Hyndman) Rogers in Billings, Mont., and was adopted by his father, George Gordon Rogers of Hoquiam, Wash., in 1957.

Michael grew up in Hoquiam, Wash., where he graduated from high school in 1972. Michael attended Centralia College while he moved to Chehalis in 1987. He married Sheryl Lynne Hines Feb. 13, 1988, in Elma, Wash. Professionally, Michael worked for ITT Rayonier Mill Hoquiam (1973-1980), Community Action Council Hoquiam (1980-1987), Centralia Medical Center (1987-2000) and was a private contractor in Lewis County (2000-2012).  

He was involved with music for more than 50 years.  Michael was a locally renowned musician, bass player and guitarist, instructor of bass and guitar, was involved in local band production and played in several bands, including Fantasy, KidCo, Branded, Centralia College Big Band, Joe Prentice Band, Chris Guenther, The Ben Potter Band, Bruce Hughes Band, Barney Perrine Band and ZeroDown.

Michael was a loving husband and father. He was open and known for a friendly smile and never knew a stranger. Michael also was a fantastic cook, feeding neighbors, friends and relatives. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles since 1992 and served as vice president for two years, president for two years and junior past president for four years at the Chehalis Aerie.

He is survived by his wife, Sheryl L. Rogers of Chehalis; son, Elliot Gordon Rogers of Centralia; daughters, Dacey Dawn Rogers Thompson of Camas, Wash., and Alexandra Michelle Rogers of Boise, Idaho; three grandchildren, Kyan, Celisse and Ronin; brothers, Edward G. Rogers of Iliff, Colo., Thomas William Rogers of Denver, Colo., and Mike E. Enoch of Hoquiam, Wash; and sisters, Kathleen Rose Rogers Simons of Hoquiam, Wash., Jeanne Marie Rogers Krupp of Tacoma, Wash., and Carolyn Maia Rogers Hernandez of Iliff, Colo.

Michael was preceded in death by his mother, Doris Maia Rogers.

A celebration of life will be held May 5, 2018, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., at The Shire Bar and Bistro, 465 NW Chehalis Ave., Chehalis, WA 98532.
